Equine Kinesiology Taping

Equine kinesiology taping is a modality used for both treatment and training of equine athletes.  The application of the tape can help in part to:

  • Increase oxygen supply and circulation to an area

    • Reduceing fatigue

    • Facilitate recovery and healing

    • Decrease recovery time

    • Decrease swelling, inflammation and associated pain

  • Increase blood and lymph flow decreasing toxin and metabolism byproduct buildup to hep muscle and joints work more efficiently.

  • Support joints, tendons and ligaments

  • Assist joint and muscle movement, encouraging full range of motion

  • Decrease muscle spasm

  • Increase athletic potential

Dr. Natalie uses a brand of tape called Equi-Tape.  The effect of Equi-Tape is based on its ability to interact with the skin and associated receptors.  It does not compress the tissue, as does other types of tapes and taping methods.  The design characteristics and associated application techniques decompress tissue and thereby allow for increased circulation.  The lifting principle behind the decompression also influences, and impacts, how pain receptors respond to the messages associated with swelling and/or inflammation.

Kinesiology taping is a great addition to traditional veterinary care as well as any integrative modality such as chiropractic, acupuncture and laser.
